NPR had a live concert yesterday featuring Martina Irglova and Glen Hansard (The Frames). Their movie, ONCE, was probably the best movie I've seen all year. I have their album, The Swell Season, and am listening it to death. The music is so beautiful and frank and honest and true, I just can't get over it.
You can listen to their live concert here and the movie is pretty much out everywhere, now.

Thank you so much for posting this. I'm listening to the show right now and it's making my night.

I actually thought of you when I posted it. I'm glad you're enjoying it, isn't it amazing? I wish they'd come here.

I didn't even know they toured. I just did a quick check and found out they're playing at the Old Town School of Folk (another great venue) in Chicago tomorrow. I got all excited, grabbed my credit card, and rearranged my entire weekend in my mind. Only then did I find out that the show's sold out.
Stupid Chicago hipsters!

Dammit! I always end up just missing things like that. When I was in Nashville, I got there an hour after Regina Spektor went on stage, and I left the day before Imogen Heap played. Grr.
(By the way, what part of town are you in?)

I think I'd go see Regina Spektor if she came to town. I'm not familiar with the music of Imogen Heap. I've heard of her and seen her CDs, but I don't recall ever hearing any songs.
I once skipped a Pavement show because I didn't feel like making the drive down to Bogart's. I was never a huge Pavement fan, but they broke up like a month later and I've always regretted skipping the show.

If you've seen Scrubs or Garden State, you've heard her music-- whether solo or as Frou Frou.
Right now I'm debating if I want to see Tori Amos when she comes to Louisville or Indy. I think if I'd go it would be more for sentimental reasons (I liked her a lot when I was a teenager) than because I really wanted to see her. I also hear it'll be her last big tour, so I'm really torn.

Ever since missing out on Pavement, my policy has been one of "go to anything and everything I want to go to even if I have to drive 12 hours or fly all the way to Boston". It's worked out pretty well so far, although it gets expensive.
As far as Tori goes, I'd definitely go see her if you haven't seen her before. I saw her on the Under The Pink tour and had a wonderful time. I used to like her a lot, but my musical preferences have gone in a different direction. I didn't even bother buying her most recent effort. She's still probably worth seeing, though.
The NPR show ended a few minutes ago. It was wonderful and I thank you again for drawing my attention to it. Today was my birthday and I consider the show a strangely perfect gift. Even the people who know me didn't get me anything as good.
Have a nice night and a good weekend.

I've seen Tori three or four times-- several times in the front row over the past couple of tours, so I don't think I'll miss TOO much if I don't go this tour. Her newest album is better than her past few, thank god.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the NPR show, and particularly glad that it turned out to be a birthday present. I hope you had a wonderful one, and enjoy your weekend as well!

Found this album for a buck on the sale rack one rainy afternoon ... and deemed it the best $1.09 I ever spent.
